Germaine DiJohn

Germaine DiJohn has been teaching first through third graders at SHMA since 1998. While studying for her bachelor’s degree in Education at Saint Leo, she had the opportunity to observe at a small Montessori school near her college. She enjoyed the way the Montessori pedagogy was applied, allowing the children to work together cooperatively using carefully prepared materials. During her Montessori training, she found that she especially liked the way Montessori math and grammar materials made abstract ideas more concrete and easier for children to comprehend. Her favorite children’s book is Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse by Kevin Henkes. Germaine is married to “Mr. D”, our P.E. teacher, and has one child, a daughter named Shalynn.
