Emergency Procedures

In the event of an emergency such as severe weather, parents should tune in to Bay News 9, WARM 94.9 FM (radio), or Channel 13 (FOX) for an announcement regarding school closing.  Additionally, watch for REMIND text messages or check the school website for emergency updates.

A general policy pertaining to severe weather is as follows:

  • If a tropical storm watch is issued, school will remain open.

  • If a hurricane watch or tropical storm warning is issued, a notice will be posted on the homepage of our school’s website, www.shma.us, as to whether school will be closed. A message will also be left on the school’s voicemail with the latest information on school closures.

  • If a hurricane warning is issued, school will be closed.

If an emergency arises and children need to be dismissed, you will be contacted by email and by telephone. In the unlikely event that emergency shelter or evacuation is required, you will find us at Countryside Baptist Church or Leila Davis Elementary School.

Weather can be unpredictable and we aim to make the safest decisions given the current circumstances. While, thankfully, we rarely need to make use of the emergency procedure, the safety of all children and staff is always our first priority.
